NBA Game Summary - San Antonio at Utah

(Tuesday, January 27th)

Final Score: San Antonio 106, Utah 100

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Tim Duncan and Tony Parker each scored 24 points, with Duncan adding nine rebounds and eight assists, as San Antonio downed Utah, 106-100, at EnergySolutions Arena.

Matt Bonner added 20 points and Manu Ginobili and Roger Mason registered 13 points apiece. Ginobili added nine rebounds and five assists for the victorious Spurs, who have won five of six overall.

Ronnie Brewer paced Utah with 23 points, while Mehmet Okur notched a double- double with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Deron Williams joined Okur in the double-double club with 19 points and 13 assists, while C.J. Miles donated 16 points and Paul Millsap put together 14 points and nine boards.

The slumping Jazz have lost four in a row.

"We had a pretty good start. But at the same time, we didn't get the defensive stops that we wanted to. We were in the game, but San Antonio is a tough veteran team," said Brewer.

The first three quarters were very evenly played. Utah led 28-25 after one period, but the Spurs rallied to slip in front, 50-49, after 24 minutes of game action.

Utah rallied to tie the contest at 80-80 entering the fourth and deciding stanza. The Jazz tallied the first two points of the period, but the Spurs answered with 10 in a row. Mason and Duncan registered back-to-back jumpers to end the streak for a 90-82 game.

The Jazz cut the deficit to 92-89 when Williams calmly sank a jumper and Miles buried a three-pointer with 4:23 on the clock. Millsap's lay-in roughly three minutes later cut San Antonio's edge to 94-93.

Ginobili made a layup, and after a Brewer turnover, the slashing southpaw got to the basket and made two free throws for a 98-93 lead. Williams' jumper and Mason's two free throws kept the margin at five, but the Spurs stunningly fouled Okur while shooting a trey on the next possession. The forward made all three attempts for a 100-98 game with 25 seconds to go.

Ginobili made two more shots from the charity stripe, then sank two more after Okur missed from long range to seal the victory.

"Manu (Ginobili) is an important part of us winning basketball games. He went to the free throw line. He was aggressive and got to the line, got fouled a lot and made his shots," said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.
