Final Score: Dallas 108, Minnesota 88
Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki notched 23 points and brought down 12 rebounds to help lead the Mavericks past the Timberwolves, 108-88, at the Target Center.
Jason Terry scored 21 points and Jason Kidd dished out 13 assists to pair with eight points for Dallas, which has been struggling of late, having suffered back-to-back losses and five defeats over its previous eight tries coming in.
"We're trying to move on. You have to win games. When you drop two in a row, it's important to get back on the winning track. This was an important win for us to get," Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said.
The Mavs received a lift from Josh Howard, who had missed the past 12 contests with an ankle injury. Howard logged 14 points and six boards in a little over 22 minutes while James Singleton chipped in 11 points and secured seven caroms in the blowout.
Dallas is currently in the eighth and final postseason spot in the Western Conference, four games clear of the Phoenix Suns, and is looking to capture a ninth straight playoff appearance.
Kevin Love posted 23 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota, which was aiming for consecutive wins for the first time since notching three straight victories from January 23-28. It put the brakes on a seven-game losing streak with Sunday's triumph over New Jersey.
Ryan Gomes and Mike Miller both contributed 15 points, and Rodney Carney 14 in defeat.
"It was one of those games where they (Dallas) needed it and you could tell right from the jump," said Miller. "We've got to be ready to play. We just didn't do it. They just did a better job executing. They made a lot of shots."
Dallas jumped out to a 36-21 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter and entered the break up by 14, 61-47.
The Mavs maintained a healthy lead in the third at 71-55 on a Nowitzki bucket just past the midway point and the visitors got jumpers from Terry and Singleton to close the frame up 16, 85-69.
Dallas opened the fourth with a 19-9 run that left no doubt about the outcome as a three-pointer from Antoine Wright capped the stretch for a 104-78 margin with 4 1/2 minutes to play.
