NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Miami
(Monday, January 26th)
Final Score: Miami 95, Atlanta 79
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Dwyane Wade scored 35 points and Miami limited the Hawks to a franchise-low 27 first-half points, on the way to a 95-79 victory.
Wade finished 13-of-19 from the field, and Daequan Cook added 16 points off the bench for the Heat, who have won five of their last seven games. Mario Chalmers totaled 12 points and six assists, while Udonis Haslem chipped in eight points and 13 rebounds.
Joe Johnson had 19 points and Marvin Williams scored 17 for the Hawks, who were held without a field goal for nearly a 13 1/2-minute span in the first half and lost for the second straight time after a three-game win streak. Josh Smith finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Flip Murray also scored 14 for Atlanta, which was a putrid 8-of-26 from the field in the opening half.
"We aren't playing together on either end of the court," said Johnson. "We are not making the extra pass, and the ball doesn't move."
Atlanta missed 13 consecutive shots during one stretch in the first half, during which time the Heat turned a 12-11 deficit into a 33-17 lead. Jamaal Magloire, starting his first game of the season for the Heat, started the spurt with a dunk midway through the first quarter, and Chris Quinn's three- pointer provided the Heat with a 25-15 lead with under eight minutes left in the half.
Haslem's two foul shots capped the flurry, and Mark Blount's dunk in the final minute of the half moved the margin to 46-27, which stood up at intermission.
The Hawks rallied in the latter stage of the third, closing the gap to 61-51 following a Johnson driving layup. That culminated a 14-4 spurt, but Cook followed by drilling a three-ball to represent the final points of the quarter.
Two free throws from Williams had the visitors within 66-59, but Cook provided another three-pointer to start a spurt and another long distance shot from Chalmers made it 75-60 with 7 1/2 minutes remaining. Atlanta never challenged the rest of the way.
"You want to have the mentality to put a team away, keep them away," said Wade. "Their team got aggressive and they came back, got within seven. I like the way we came back and put them away after they made their run."
