NBA Game Summary - Milwaukee at Atlanta

(Friday, January 23rd)

Final Score: Atlanta 117, Milwaukee 87

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Flip Murray was spectacular off the bench, making 11-of-13 shots en route to a 25-point performance, as the Atlanta Hawks came away with a resounding 117-87 win over the Milwaukee Bucks at Philips Arena.

Josh Smith tallied 24 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks, who have won three straight games. Maurice Evans was a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points, while Mike Bibby had 12 points and dished out 15 assists.

"We just wanted to get out on (Milwaukee) early and not give them confidence," Smith said. "When they play with a bunch of confidence, they are a good team."

Marvin Williams returned from a two-game absence with concussion-like symptoms to collect 11 points and nine rebounds in 27-plus minutes for Atlanta.

Charlie Villanueva scored 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting and missed once on six tries from three-point range for the Bucks, who have dropped three of four. Michael Redd donated 16 points in the loss.

"We didn't show up in any facet of the game," said Bucks head coach Scott Skiles. "(The Hawks) did whatever they wanted to do."

Milwaukee held an early 10-7 edge, but the Hawks took command of the game and led 27-19 after opening 12 minutes. Atlanta then went on a 9-0 run to begin the second quarter, with Murray draining a three and adding two more baskets during the spurt that gave Atlanta a 17-point cushion.

A Villanueva three and Redd layup sliced the deficit to single digits at 52-43 in the latter stages of the frame, but Williams' deuce made it 58-47 at halftime.

After Villanueva drained a three-pointer, closing the gap to 60-55 early in the third quarter, Atlanta turned the contest into a rout. Evans knocked down a trey to cap a 12-2 run, and two Joe Johnson free throws stretched the margin to 81-64 with two minutes left in the frame.

The Hawks carried a comfortable 86-67 lead into the fourth quarter and cruised to the finish.
