Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Marc Gasol scored 27 points to lead the Memphis Grizzlies past the Kings, 113-95, snapping a 20-game losing streak in Sacramento.
The Memphis franchise's only other win in Sacramento was on April 19, 1998 when the then-Vancouver Grizzlies earned a 112-108 overtime victory. Overall, the Grizzlies are a dismal 2-25 at ARCO Arena.
Rudy Gay chipped in 23 points and nine rebounds for the Grizzlies, who snapped a five-game slide. Mike Conley added 20 points, six boards and five assists in the win. Hakim Warrick ended with 13 points.
"We have a lot of young talent," said Conley. "We have a good core of guys here, the more we play together and grow together the better we're going to be."
Kevin Martin poured in a game-best 31 points for the Kings, who have dropped two in a row and seven of eight overall. Jason Thompson donated 17 points and Andres Nocioni 14 in defeat.
The Grizzlies opened a 32-22 lead after the first quarter and carried a 59-37 advantage into the break.
Down 66-41 early in the third, Martin offered a layup and Francisco Garcia nailed a three to spark a 17-2 run. Layups from Thompson and Beno Udrih closed the surge with just over five minutes left to make it 68-58.
Memphis led 82-67 heading into the fourth.
Quinton Ross' three-pointer and Gasol's three-point play gave the Grizzlies an 88-67 lead early in the fourth and Memphis held on from there.
"We believe in what we're doing," said Gasol. "We care about playing defense and getting rebounds. We knew they were going to make a run but we stayed focused."
Memphis shot 52.7 percent from the field, while Sacramento hit at a 47 percent clip...The Kings were outrebounded, 36-25...The woeful Kings possess the NBA's worst record at 15-56..The teams split four meetings this season.
