NBA Game Summary - Dallas at Milwaukee
(Wednesday, January 21st)
Final Score: Milwaukee 133, Dallas 99
Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Charlie Villanueva scored a season-high 32 points and the Milwaukee Bucks destroyed the Dallas Mavericks, 133-99, winning despite center Andrew Bogut sitting out his fourth straight game due to back spasms.
Villanueva, who hit 12-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, also had 10 rebounds as the Bucks snapped a two-game skid. Michael Redd went 5-of-9 from beyond the arc on the way to 27 points, and Ramon Sessions tallied 21 points and seven assists in the victory. Richard Jefferson posted 15 points, seven boards and eight assists.
"It was one of those nights when the basket opened up for us and we were able to knock them down," said Bucks coach Scott Skiles. "I thought we started the game a little bit sluggish, which is understandable considering we just came off a trip. Eight or nine minutes into the game we were able to regroup a little bit."
Dirk Nowitzki ended with 30 points to pace the Mavericks, losers in five of their last seven contests. Josh Howard added 19 points and Jason Kidd 18 for Dallas, which struggled by shooting 36.6 percent from the field. The Mavs' defense allowed the Bucks to make a season-high 57.8 percent from the floor, including a 13-of-26 mark from three-point range.
"It's just not getting it done defensively," said Mavs coach Rick Carlisle. "They have shot makers and they got a lot of good player, but we didn't fight hard enough. It got away from us."
Dallas guard Jason Terry went just 3-of-13 from the field for seven points before departing with 8:57 remaining in the game with a left wrist injury, though it doesn't appear to be serious.
The Mavs surged late in the opening quarter to assume a 30-22 lead after 12 minutes, but the Bucks caught fire in the second, making 15-of-18 from the field.
Antoine Wright's jumper briefly extended the Mavs to a 36-25 lead less than two minutes into the second, but the Bucks rallied and a three-pointer from Villanueva gave the home team a 46-44 edge with 5 1/2 minutes remaining in the half.
The Bucks were in front 64-58 at the break and then poured it on in the third, using a 30-9 run. Redd canned three consecutive shots from beyond the arc during the surge and Villanueva sank a pair of three-pointers, including the one that capped the flurry for a 97-76 lead with 2 1/2 minutes left in the stanza.
It was 101-85 going to the fourth, and the Bucks continued to dominate over the final 12 minutes.
Dallas has lost five of seven at Milwaukee...This was a season-high in points and three-pointers for the Bucks...The Bucks are 4-7 without Bogut this year and 7-24 minus him since he arrived in Milwaukee...Terry has made at least one three-pointer in 31 consecutive games.
