NBA Game Summary - Boston at Miami
(Wednesday, January 21st)
Final Score: Boston 98, Miami 83
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Eddie House took some pressure off Boston's trio of superstars, hitting 7-of-11 from behind the arc for 25 points, as the Celtics rolled to their sixth straight victory in a 98-83 thumping of the Miami Heat.
Ray Allen was also nearly unstoppable from outside, making five of his six attempts from three-point range for a game-high 27 points for Boston, which has bounced back after losing seven of their previous nine games prior to its current winning streak.
Kevin Garnett posted 16 points and 13 boards, while Paul Pierce, nursing a sore right ankle, chipped in 14 points while grabbing eight boards for the Celtics, who won with ease despite committing 21 turnovers thanks to a 15- for-25 effort from long range.
Coming off a respectable 4-3 road trip, Miami struggled on both sides of the ball, hitting 40 percent of its shots compared to Boston's 51.4 percent clip from the field. Dwyane Wade finished with 25 points, while Daequan Cook sunk four three-pointers for 20 points in the loss.
The Heat managed to make just one field goal in the final six minutes of the opening quarter, as Allen's 12 points single-handedly outscored the hosts 12-10.
Boston's 29-10 lead after the first grew to 57-34 at halftime after a sensational quarter by House, who made 6-of-8 from downtown in the second stanza.
"Eddie [House] was phenomenal, and we really needed him too," Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said. "When Eddie is shooting the ball well like that and you have [Rajon] Rondo on the floor and even Paul [Pierce] at times, it makes it very difficult for teams to help [on defense]."
The difference stayed in double digits throughout the third with the C's holding a 78-64 advantage leading to the final frame.
Cook drilled a three for an 87-76 deficit with 5 1/2 minutes to play, but any hope of a comeback faded after Garnett hit a mid-range jumper and Allen hit treys on three consecutive possessions for an insurmountable 19-point edge.
"That's a good defensive team as well as a good offensive team," Wade said. "We got it to 12 and they kept hitting threes. We put ourselves in that hole early on and that was tough."
Boston has beaten Miami in six straight meetings...Rajon Rondo dished out 10 assists to go with seven points for Boston...Michael Beasley logged 17 points and 11 rebounds for Miami, which turned the ball over 11 times but shot a poor 7-for-25 from three-point land...Boston held a 48-30 edge in rebounds.
