(Tuesday, January 20th)

Final Score: Utah 112, Minnesota 107

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Paul Millsap scored a game-best 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, powering the Utah Jazz past the Minnesota Timberwolves, 112-107.

"I wanted to step up tonight," said Millsap. "I felt like I needed to crash the boards hard tonight."

Mehmet Okur added 22 points and Deron Williams 17 with 11 assists for the Jazz, who celebrated Jerry Sloan's new contract extension with a victory. Sloan is the fourth-winningest coach in NBA history and the longest tenured active coach with one team in major professional sports, and is also the longest tenured head coach in NBA history.

The Jazz rolled to the finish line despite missing Andrei Kirilenko for the majority of the contest. The forward scored five points before leaving in the first quarter with an inflamed right ankle.

Al Jefferson tallied 25 points and grabbed eight boards, Randy Foye and Ryan Gomes each donated 19 points and Sebastian Telfair registered 17 points to go along with nine assists for the Timberwolves, who finished their three-game road trip at 2-1.

Utah held a 32-25 edge after one stanza and headed into the locker room with a 58-49 lead, however Minnesota answered back in the third quarter.

Williams' three-point play with less than three minutes on the clock gave the Jazz an 81-74 edge, but rookie Kevin Love and Telfair registered jumpers for an 81-78 game. Minnesota trailed by three, 83-80, after 36 minutes of play.

Gomes' three brought the Timberwolves within one point, 87-86, but Kyle Korver buried a trey and Millsap's layup provided some breathing room with 8 1/2 minutes left.

Seven straight points by the visitors again trimmed the deficit to one point. Jefferson's layup and five straight points from Foye made the score 97-96 with nearly 4 1/2 minutes remaining.

Okur took over from there, burying consecutive threes and hitting 1-of-2 free throws for a 104-96 edge. Minnesota ran out of time from there.

"He hit two big threes--really big," said Timberwolves head coach Kevin McHale.
