NBA Game Summary - Golden State at LA Lakers

(Thursday, March 19th)

Final Score: LA Lakers 114, Golden State 106

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Pau Gasol registered 21 points and 14 rebounds, helping the Los Angeles Lakers to a 114-106 win over the Golden State Warriors.

Kobe Bryant also scored 21, while Lamar Odom notched 16 points and 12 boards for the Lakers, who won for the fourth time in their last five overall and beat the Warriors for a fifth consecutive encounter.

Trevor Ariza added 13 points and canned a big shot from beyond the arc late in the fourth quarter for Los Angeles.

"That was another one of those run games where we had a little lead and they ran it back at us pretty quick," said Lakers coach Phil Jackson. "We were able to stabilize ourselves at the end."

Monta Ellis had 27 points and Kelenna Azubuike tied a season-high with 25 for the Warriors, who lost for the fourth straight time on the road.

"We were able to come back twice from 17 down, but they made it tough to finish around the basket because of their length," said Warriors coach Don Nelson.

Odom's three-point play midway through the fourth quarter gave the Lakers a comfortable 101-86 cushion, but Anthony Morrow and Azubuike sparked a 16-4 run with a 22-foot jumper and a three-pointer, respectively, and the Warriors eventually pulled within 105-102 following a Jackson layup with 2 1/2 minutes remaining.

Odom came back with a layup, but Ellis' bucket made it 107-104 with 1 1/2 minutes to go. Ariza then nailed a three-pointer from the top of the arc with 1:14 left, essentially sealing the victory.

"We tried to keep our intensity up," said Odom. "We were able to hold them off at the end. We need to do a better job of communicating with each other."

Golden State led 28-26 after one quarter, but LA went ahead, 52-51, at the half. The Lakers then started the third with 11 straight points, capped by an Ariza layup, and they went to the fourth in front 82-73.
