NBA Game Summary - Orlando at San Antonio

(Sunday, January 11th)

Final Score: Orlando 105, San Antonio 98

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Dwight Howard continued to crank out double-doubles with 24 points and 14 rebounds and the Orlando Magic won a matchup of division leaders, 105-98, over the San Antonio Spurs.

Jameer Nelson contributed 22 points and five assists, hitting a trio of three- point shots and Hedo Turkoglu provided 21 points, five rebounds and as many assists in the win, Orlando's fourth in a row.

Rashard Lewis chipped in 15 points and J.J. Redick 12 on four three-pointers as the Southeast Division-leading Magic notched their 13th win in the last 15 games overall.

Orlando kicked off a four-game road trip Sunday with visits scheduled against the Kings, Lakers and Nuggets still to come.

Tony Parker scored a game-high 31 points but failed to convert a pair of uncontested layups in the waning moments of the fourth as San Antonio saw its four-game win streak halted. Tim Duncan posted 18 points and 10 rebounds while Manu Ginobili also scored 18 in the loss.

The Southwest Division-leading Spurs fell to 1-1 on their three-game homestand, which closes out Wednesday against the Lakers.

After San Antonio regained the lead early in the fourth, the Magic went on an 11-2 run capped by a three-point play from Howard that gave his team an 85-79 lead. The Spurs, though, scored seven straight points, and Roger Mason's three-pointer gave the home team a one-point edge with 6 1/2 minutes to go.

The teams traded baskets down the stretch and Redick's fourth three-pointer of the game put Orlando in front, 97-94, with 2:34 to play. Nelson drilled a three moments later, and after a San Antonio miss, Nelson sank a jumper for a 102-96 advantage.

A Matt Bonner jumper made it a four-point game, but Parker botched a pair of layups on San Antonio's next two trips up the floor and Orlando went to the line to seal the win.

Orlando held a 34-28 lead after 12 minutes thanks to a 9-2 run that closed the opening frame. Back-to-back threes from Redick and Turkoglu and a slam from Howard early in the second provided an eight-point edge, but San Antonio scored 10 of the next 13 points to pull within one with 4:27 left in the half. Parker scored the next six Spurs points, but Nelson's three-ball closed the frame for a 55-50 Orlando halftime lead.

Parker's run of seven straight points early in the third gave the Spurs their first lead since the first quarter at 59-57, and a jumper later in the frame provided for a three-point edge. The Magic, though, forged ahead with a slam from Howard and a three from Redick before Turkoglu's trip to the line for two allowed for a 74-72 lead after three quarters.
