NBA Game Summary - New Orleans at Chicago

(Saturday, March 14th)

Final Score: Chicago 97, New Orleans 79

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Ben Gordon scored 27 points to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 97-79 blowout win over the New Orleans Hornets.

John Salmons tallied 24 points, and Brad Miller chipped in 15 points and nine boards for the Bulls, who snapped a three-game skid.

Chris Paul had 29 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Hornets, who lost for just the second time in their last 11 games.

"We had our plan on how we wanted to play Chris Paul," said Salmons. "I think we did a good job of that. On the offensive end we made shots."

The Bulls used a big run to pull away in the second quarter after leading 27-22 through 12 minutes. James Posey's layup cut Chicago's lead to 30-24 with less than two minutes expired, but the Bulls ran off the ensuing 18 points. Gordon, Salmons and Tim Thomas each hit three-pointers during the spurt for a 48-24 cushion with less than six minutes remaining.

New Orleans trimmed its deficit to 53-39 at the half, but Salmons nailed a pair of three-pointers in the opening two minutes of the third quarter, and the Bulls cruised into the fourth holding an 81-57 advantage thanks to nine straight points to end the period.

Salmons, who finished the night 5-of-8 from three-point range, started the fourth with another long-distance shot, and the Bulls weren't threatened over the final 12 minutes.

"This is a bad loss for us, not that we played against a bad team, it's just the way that we played," said Paul. "Tonight was just terrible on both ends of the court."
