NBA Game Summary - Cleveland at Phoenix
(Thursday, March 12th)
Final Score: Cleveland 119, Phoenix 111
Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - LeBron James notched a triple-double with 34 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds, while Mo Williams exploded for 30 points in Cleveland's 119-111 victory over Phoenix.
James recorded a triple-double for the third consecutive game, having done so Tuesday in Cleveland's 87-83 win over the Clippers, and also this past Saturday in the Cavs' 99-89 victory over Miami.
"I think we got out with a win because of the way we defended in the fourth quarter," said Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown. "We just needed to buckle down defensively and string some stops together and we were going to give ourselves a chance."
Sasha Pavlovic added 16 points off the bench, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas donated 15 points for the Cavaliers, who improved to 21-4 against the Western Conference this season.
Steve Nash scored 20 points with six assists and Matt Barnes led six players in double figures with 21 points for the Suns, who lost their sixth straight game for the first time since January 2005.
"It's frustrating for us, but we've just got to keep working, see what happens, and just try to stay positive," Nash said.
Cleveland led 30-27 after one period then went into the locker room with a 63-62 edge.
Phoenix surged ahead during the third stanza, embarking on a 12-3 burst to begin the final period. Jason Richardson scored eight straight points during the stretch and Shaquille O'Neal's bucket opened the 74-66 lead. The Cavs came back within one, 86-85, after James sank two of his 11 made free throws, but Phoenix took a 93-89 advantage into the final 12 minutes of game action.
Pavlovic got into the action early in the final quarter, draining back-to-back threes as part of eight in a row for the Cavs. Grant Hill's three-point play brought Phoenix within 101-100 with just over seven minutes to go. However, James' two free throws capped a 10-2 run for a 111-102 game with under four minutes to go.
The Cavaliers held on for the victory from there.
