NBA Game Summary - Boston at Charlotte

(Tuesday, January 6th)

Final Score: Charlotte 114, Boston 106 (OT)

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Raymond Felton scored 25 points and dished out eight assists, and fellow guard D.J. Augustin stepped into the limelight with a big effort in overtime, as Charlotte continued Boston's recent road woes with a 114-106 overtime victory.

Augustin scored 20 points, double-double machine Emeka Okafor notched 13 points and a game-best 17 rebounds, Gerald Wallace added 23 points and six rebounds and Boris Diaw donated 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Adam Morrison contributed 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting off the bench for the Bobcats, who have won two straight.

Boston's franchise-record 19-game winning streak is a distant memory. Further in the rearview mirror may be the 72-win, Michael Jordan-led Bulls after Boston lost for the fifth time in its last seven games.

Jordan was in attendance to watch his Bobcats notch a marquee victory, while Boston lost away from Beantown for the fifth time in the last six road games, falling to 29-7 on the season.

Paul Pierce led Boston with 28 points, Ray Allen added 20, Rajon Rondo collected 16 and six assists and Kevin Garnett needed 18 shots to score his 14 points with 13 rebounds.

Boston, highlighted by Allen's 3-of-11 effort, was just 6-of-23 from beyond the arc and was sloppy with the basketball, led by Rondo's uncharacteristic nine turnovers.

The Celtics were without guard Tony Allen, who sat out with a right ankle injury.

Garnett's short jumper started overtime, but Charlotte raced off to a five- point edge with 11 of the next 13 points. Augustin scored seven of those points with free throws to bookend the stretch and a key three-pointer. His final two shots from the charity stripe opened up a 108-101 edge.

Charlotte maintained control from there.

A back-and-forth affair continued to teeter in each direction during the fourth stanza. A pair of Pierce free throws opened a 93-30 edge with just over 2 1/2 minutes to play, but the Bobcats scored the next four points capped by Okafor's putback for a one-point lead.

Garnett's hook shot with just under one minute to go put Boston back in front, 95-94, but Felton's difficult jumper handed the Bobcats the lead once again. Allen got a good look on the other end with just under 30 seconds remaining, but misfired and Felton was fouled.

He missed the first, but converted on the second for a 97-95 lead with 20.2 ticks left. Boston then looked to its captain for the tying bucket. Pierce backed his way into the lane and drained a turnaround jumper with 3.4 seconds on the clock.

Felton had a chance to secure a victory, but his leaning jumper just above the foul line hit off the rim as the horn sounded.

Charlotte lead 28-23 after one stanza and 53-47 after 24 minutes. Boston responded with a solid third to square the contest at 73-73 entering the fourth period.

Game Notes

Boston made 44.3 percent of its shots, while Charlotte converted on 48.1 percent of its attempts and made 31-of-34 free throws, including a 12-of-12 effort from Augustin...The Celtics saw their three-game winning streak in the series come to an end. Boston had also won four straight in Charlotte coming into the contest...Bad blood flowed, as Charlotte Juwan Howard was whistled for a flagrant foul, while Felton and Boston head coach Doc Rivers were called for technical fouls during another hard foul.
