NBA Game Summary - Orlando at Toronto
(Sunday, January 4th)
Final Score: Toronto 108, Orlando 102
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Chris Bosh finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Toronto Raptors to a 108-102 win over the Orlando Magic at Air Canada Centre.
Anthony Parker scored a team-best 26 points and Andrea Bargnani added 18 for the Raptors, who posted a 2-1 mark during a three-game homestand. Roko Ukic contributed 12 points and seven assists off the bench.
"We will take any win, any way we can get it," Bosh said. "(Orlando) came out in the second half shooting three's very well. We could have easily broken down and started hugging our man on the outside and stopped protecting the paint. We kept doing a great job, and we gave them one shot."
Dwight Howard matched a career-high with 39 points and pulled down eight rebounds but missed two critical free throws late in the game for the Southeast Division-leading Magic, who lost for just the second time in their last 11 games.
"I don't think we played great defense tonight," Howard said. "We let them get off to a good start, and they didn't look back from there. We didn't block out and rebounds, we didn't do a lot of the little things, and I take the blame for a lot of the stuff that happened tonight. I wasn't there defensively like I should have been."
Rashard Lewis registered 20 points, dished out nine assists and grabbed six boards for Orlando.
Toronto used a late 20-2 run in the first quarter to take a 34-22 lead into the second frame, and maintained a 56-49 advantage at the break. However, Orlando overtook the Raptors and held a slim 78-77 edge at the end of the third quarter.
The clubs traded baskets throughout the final stanza, and Orlando led 98-97 after Howard hit 1-of-2 from the foul line and Lewis knocked down a trey with about three minutes left on the clock to put the Magic up 101-99.
Bosh restored the lead for Toronto, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the stripe. Howard then sank the first of two free throws before Ukic drained a one-handed floater with 38.1 seconds remaining.
J.J. Redick's three-point bid at the other end was off the mark and Bosh corralled the rebound and sealed the win with a couple of free throws.
Toronto forward Jermaine O'Neal missed his third straight game with a sore right knee, while guard Jose Calderon (hamstring) also sat out for the Raptors...Jameer Nelson totaled 15 points in the loss for Orlando...Will Solomon had 11 points for the Raptors, who shot 53.9 percent (41-of-76) from the field and made 23-of-24 attempts from the foul line...The Magic shot 46.1 percent (35-of-76) from the floor.
