NBA Game Summary - Memphis at LA Clippers

(Wednesday, March 4th)

Final Score: Memphis 118, LA Clippers 95

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Rudy Gay poured in a season-best 35 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Memphis snapped an eight-game skid with a 118-95 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Marc Gasol had 20 points, eight boards and a career-best 10 assists for the Grizzlies, who posted their first win since February 9 against New Orleans. O.J. Mayo had 18 points and Hakim Warrick scored 17 for Memphis, which won for just the fourth time (4-24) on the road all season.

"We passed the ball well and made some good shots," said Gay. "We definitely needed this one. To have a game like this was good for my confidence. This was big for us."

Al Thornton had 25 points for the Clippers, who lost their fourth in a row. Baron Davis had 16 points and Mike Taylor notched a career-best 15 points in a reserve role.

"It's very frustrating. We had careless turnovers and they got the momentum," said Thornton. "We had too many breakdowns defensively."

The Clippers were ahead by a point at the half, but were outscored 66-42 over the final 24 minutes.

A three-pointer by Mardy Collins at the conclusion of the opening quarter brought the Clippers within 30-26, but they went ahead with a 7-2 surge at the end of the half as Davis drained a three-pointer and Thornton nailed a jumper.

A 13-0 run by the Grizzlies changed the complexion of the game. Gay hit a big three-pointer during the surge and he capped it with a pair of foul shots for an 80-72 difference with nearly 1 1/2 minutes remaining. Gay's three-ball brought it to 85-74 moving to the fourth.

A three-pointer from Greg Buckner and Darrell Arthur's short jumper expanded the lead to 90-74 early in the fourth. Another three-pointer from Buckner made it 101-82 with 6 1/2 minutes left.
