NBA Game Summary - Toronto at Dallas
(Sunday, March 1st)
Final Score: Dallas 109, Toronto 98
Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki had 24 points and 10 rebounds as Dallas continued its home dominance over the road-weary Toronto Raptors with a 109-98 victory.
Josh Howard netted 16 points and Antoine Wright 15 for the Mavericks, who polished off a perfect three-game homestand, improved to 22-8 at home this season and beat Toronto in Dallas for a ninth consecutive time.
The Raptors last win on the road in this series came on December 30, 1999.
Jason Kidd dished out a game-high 15 assists with nine points and became just the fourth player in NBA history to eclipse 10,000 career assists. John Stockton (15,806), Mark Jackson (10,334) and Magic Johnson (10,141) are the only players ahead of Kidd on the assists list.
"It felt pretty good to hit that mark," said Kidd. "I need my teammates to achieve that so I am thankful for my teammates. It really is an honor, though, when you look at the guys that I have joined. All the thanks that I can give is for the teammates that I have had over the years."
James Singleton posted a career-high 16 rebounds and scored 12 in the win.
Jason Terry returned to the lineup for Dallas following an eight-game absence after having surgery on his left hand earlier this month. The team's second- leading scorer finished with eight points in 18-plus minutes.
Chris Bosh notched 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Toronto, which has lost four of the last six games. The Raptors fell to a miserable 11-22 on the road this season and dropped to 0-2 on a three-game trek that will wrap up in Houston on Tuesday.
"We pretty much have to find some way," said Bosh. "I don't think guys are getting tired. We slow it up and we still don't play well and even when we try to play to our advantage and I don't think it's wearing us down or anything like that. I think we just have to get in the proper condition to do it. We have to keep in mind to play better defense so we can run and put some pressure on the defense."
Andrea Bargnani had 18 points and seven rebounds while Joey Graham added 14 points in a losing cause.
The Mavs went up 27-24 after 12 minutes and stretched their lead to seven, 60-53, at halftime.
An 8-2 spurt to open the third quarter saw the Raptors close to within one on a Parker jump shot but a 13-4 Dallas run buoyed by seven points from Nowitzki gave the hosts an 11-point lead with 4:38 to play.
A Terry three-ball closed out the frame and pushed the lead to 15, 90-75, and a Jose Barea triple midway through the fourth still had the Mavs in front 101-86. Toronto was never able to close the gap below double digits from there.
