NBA Game Summary - Washington at Charlotte

Final Score: Charlotte 80, Washington 72

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Emeka Okafor led the way for Charlotte with 29 points and 18 rebounds, as the Bobcats pulled away late to beat the Wizards, 80-72.

Gerald Wallace added 16 points and eight boards for the Bobcats, who have won three of four overall. Raja Bell chipped in 11 points in the win.

Caron Butler poured in a game-high 31 points for the Wizards, who have let seven straight games slip away. Antawn Jamison gave 14 points in defeat.

Andray Blatche, who left late in the fourth quarter after Okafor came down on his right arm following a botched dunk, had five points and eight boards.

Two free throws from Butler gave the Wizards a 58-57 lead with 10 1/2 minutes left in the game. Though, the Bobcats pulled ahead, leading 68-64 when Matt Carroll nailed a three from the right wing just prior to the six-minute mark.

A minute later Boris Diaw poured in a layup for a six-point lead for the home team.

Mike James' three-pointer and Butler's pair of free throws made it a one-point game, 70-69, but Charlotte answered with 10 consecutive points to assume an 80-69 advantage and cruise down the stretch.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 26-18 lead after the first quarter but the Wizards tied it up at 36 heading into the half.

Two free throws from Okafor, a pair from Wallace and a Diaw dunk opened a 50-44 Charlotte lead with 3:35 left in the third stanza.

However, Butler's jumper and DeShawn Stevenson's three-pointer brought the visitors within 55-53 heading into the final 12 minutes.

Game Notes

The Wizards fell to 4-22 this season and have lost four straight on the road. They are also 1-10 away from DC this season...Washington center Etan Thomas (ankle) did not play...The Bobcats are 8-10 as the host this season...Washington went 3-1 against the Bobcats last season and had scored at least 100 points in 13 of the 16 meetings. The Wizards are 12-5 in the all- time series against Charlotte, which is 3-6 as the host in this set.
