NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Portland

(Friday, February 20th)

Final Score: Portland 108, Atlanta 98

Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Brandon Roy finished with 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists, leading the Portland Trail Blazers to a 108-98 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

LaMarcus Aldridge added 24 points and 11 rebounds for Portland, which has won four of its last five. Rudy Fernandez scored 19 points off the bench for the Blazers, who have won four consecutive matchups with the Hawks and 13 of the last 14 meetings.

"I thought we played a solid game, taking care of the ball and playing pretty good defense against a very good team," Blazers head coach Nate McMillan said. "Atlanta is a lot like us. Our style of play is very similar. They have good shooters and they make you adjust your game to them. I think tonight we made some adjustments on how to play them."

Mike Bibby had 27 points to pace the Hawks, who have lost two of three. Atlanta fell to 2-2 on its six-game road trip, which ends with visits to Utah on Monday and Denver on Wednesday.

Joe Johnson ended with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the loss, while Flip Murray scored 17 off the bench.

"They were relentless on the glass, I don't think we were determined enough especially on the defensive boards," Johnson said. "I don't feel as if we were boxing out and being more determined them to get the rebounds, they were getting offensive rebounds and getting put-backs. That was it right there, that was the turn in the game right there."

Atlanta took a 26-23 lead after one quarter, but an Aldridge dunk and free throw from Steve Blake to close the second gave Portland a 50-48 edge at halftime.

Blake then opened the third quarter with a three-pointer, and Aldridge followed with a dunk to extend the Blazers' lead to seven.

Portland continued to lead throughout the third, and extended its lead to 78-68 with a little over a minute left after Fernandez drilled a three.

Fernandez's basket just before the buzzer put the Blazers ahead 80-72 going to the fourth. Atlanta got within six, when Al Horford's free throw brought the Hawks to 82-76, but Fernandez answered with another trey to push Portland's lead to nine.

A few minutes later, Travis Outlaw sank two free throws for the Blazers, which started a 10-1 burst. Roy connected on a three in the run and ended it with a jumper to make it a 97-81 lead for the hosts, who held on the final six minutes.
