NBA Game Summary - New Orleans at Memphis

(Tuesday, December 16th)

Final Score: New Orleans 91, Memphis 84

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Chris Paul had 18 points and nine assists to lead the New Orleans Hornets to a 91-84 win that snapped the Memphis Grizzlies' season-high four-game winning streak at FedEx Forum.

Paul also logged five steals and matched the NBA record for consecutive games with at least one swipe. San Antonio's Alvin Robertson set the mark at 105 games between November 1985 and December 1986.

David West also scored 18 while James Posey chipped in 15 off the bench for New Orleans, which closed out a three-game road trip 2-1 and won for the fifth time in six games overall.

Rudy Gay notched a game-high 28 points while O.J.Mayo netted 20 for Memphis, which is now 2-1 on a five-game homestand and lost for the first time at home in five games. Memphis is 7-6 as the host this season with both the Bobcats and Lakers next scheduled for visits.

Memphis started the fourth down one, 61-60, but Darrell Arthur's jumper allowed for the Grizzlies' first lead of the game less than two minutes in. The teams traded baskets and the lead throughout much of the frame.

Peja Stojakovic's three-pointer broke an 81-point deadlock with just under three minutes left and West followed with a jumper. Hakim Warrick made things interesting by drilling a shot from long range, but Memphis wound up turning the ball over on four of its last five possessions and New Orleans went 5- for-6 at the line to seal the win.

The Hornets jumped out to a 26-11 lead after 12 minutes but the Grizzlies opened the second on a 12-4 run to pull within seven, a lead New Orleans would maintain at halftime, 49-42.

The Hornets went ice cold from the floor in the third, hitting one bucket over the first 6 1/2 minutes, but Memphis wasn't much better and a Rasual Butler three with 5 1/2 minutes left saw New Orleans still holding a five-point edge. The Grizzlies hung in there, though, and a drive to the hoop from Mike Conley made it a one-point affair after three.
