NBA Game Summary - Phoenix at Detroit

(Sunday, February 8th)

Final Score: Phoenix 107, Detroit 97

Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Steve Nash was sensational while orchestrating the Suns offense, handing out an eye-popping 21 assists to go with 15 points, as Phoenix completed a season sweep of the Detroit Pistons with a 107-97 victory at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Shaquille O'Neal recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Jason Richardson (21 points) and Amare Stoudemire (18) were on the receiving end of numerous easy baskets because of Nash. The Suns, who have won three of four, also received 17 points from Leandro Barbosa and 10 from Grant Hill.

"I'd like to give credit to my teammates," said Nash. "They made the plays and got open for me, so they deserve a lot of credit."

Richard Hamilton and Allen Iverson paced Detroit with 27 and 25 points, respectively. Rasheed Wallace added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the sluggish Pistons, who were coming off a hard-fought overtime victory over the Bucks on Saturday.

The first quarter ended in a 29-29 deadlock before the Suns padded a two-point lead with a 9-0 run late in the second frame. Hamilton stopped the rally with a three-pointer, but Hill and Barbosa each recorded a bucket before the half for a 62-50 advantage for Phoenix.

Detroit won a back-and-forth third period but still trailed 83-74 leading to the final 12 minutes. The hosts continued to find offense in the final frame but couldn't stop Nash and the Suns at the other end.

"They had too many points," said Iverson. "We got it close in the second half and they kept coming at us and executing."

Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince dropped in a trey with 4 1/2 minutes left to cut the deficit to 94-86.

A Wallace three made it a six-point game, 99-93, two minutes later, and Nash's floater on the ensuing possession followed by two misses and a turnover on Detroit's next touch essentially sealed the outcome.
