NBA Game Summary - New York at Portland

(Sunday, February 8th)

Final Score: Portland 109, New York 108

Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Brandon Roy scored the game-winning layup as time expired to help the Portland Trail Blazers steal one from the New York Knicks, 109-108, at the Rose Garden.

Roy ended with 19 points and eight assists for the Blazers, who stopped a two- game slide. Travis Outlaw had 23 points and LaMarcus Aldridge 16. Greg Oden chipped in 17 points and 12 boards while also swatting a career-high six shots in the win.

"We dropped two (games) and you don't want to drop three, especially when you have a team down like we did," said Oden. "Thank God for Brandon and Travis. They put us on their backs; we just didn't want to lose. They brought us back."

David Lee donated 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Knicks, who have dropped four straight contests on the heels of a three-game win streak. Nate Robinson and Al Harrington scored 19 points apiece and Tim Thomas 17 in defeat. Chris Duhon gave 10 points and 10 helpers.

With the Knicks up by three with about a minute left, Lee missed a baseline jumper and Portland brought the ball upcourt, where Roy missed a layup and Oden missed the tip-in. The ball went out of bounds, but the home team retained possession before calling a timeout with 33.5 seconds left.

Following the stoppage, Outlaw hit a jumper to make it 108-107 with 31.6 ticks left.

On New York's ensuing possession, Harrington missed an easy layup, and Oden grabbed the rebound before the Blazers called their final timeout with 4.3 seconds left.

Roy took the inbounds pass at the top of the key and drove the lane, pouring in the game-winning layup as time expired for a Portland victory.

"You just hope for him to miss," said Robinson. "At that point there is nothing you can do, just put the best defense you have on him...unfortunately he made it."

The Blazers built up a 36-27 lead after the first quarter and still boasted a nine-point cushion, 59-50, heading into the break.

Portland went up by as many as 17 points in the third quarter but Duhon drained a pair of three-pointers to help New York close the quarter on a 22-5 run and tie the game at 82 heading into the fourth.

Thomas' three-pointer and Robinson's jumper helped the Knicks open the final frame on a 15-2 spurt. Robinson had 10 points on the surge and also closed it out with a three en route to a 97-84 lead for the visitors.

Moments later, Outlaw's two threes sandwiched around an Aldridge jumper brought the home team within 100-96 with 4:48 left to play.

With the Blazers later down by seven, Oden had a tip-in and Outlaw nailed a long jumper to bring the Blazers within 108-105 with 70 seconds left.
