NBA Game Summary - Orlando at Utah

(Saturday, December 13th)

Final Score: Orlando 103, Utah 94

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Rashard Lewis scored 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and the Orlando Magic overcame the absence of Dwight Howard to beat Utah, 103-94.

Hedo Turkoglu added 23 points, and Jameer Nelson added 17 points and six assists for the Magic, who have won five of their last six games.

"We worked all together (tonight). Everybody stepped up and used the opportunity (with Howard out) to play and show themselves (to coach Stan Van Gundy)," said Turkoglu. "We learn lots from games like this. We beat a good team tonight. We needed a win like this."

Howard missed a game for the first time in his NBA career with a sprained left knee. He was hurt Friday night in a loss at Phoenix, and on Saturday had his streak of 351 straight games played snapped.

Deron Williams had 17 points and 11 assists for the Jazz, who had won their previous two games. Paul Millsap totaled 14 points and 14 rebounds. Andrei Kirilenko also had 17 points.

"We had 22 turnovers for 18 points. The last game we played here we came in at halftime and had four turnovers," said Utah coach Jerry Sloan. "That's an indication of being ready to play. We had 13 turnovers in the first half tonight and that's an indication that we didn't need to get ready. We're not good enough to be able to survive all the stuff we've gone through if we don't get everybody ready to play hard."

The Magic trailed by 10 at the half, but used a dominant third quarter to take control. Orlando began the third on a 16-1 run. Nelson capped the burst with a jumper for a 62-57 lead midway through the quarter. It was 80-68 heading to the fourth.

Nelson's three-pointer with nearly eight minutes left expanded the cushion to 89-74, but the Jazz scored the ensuing nine points. Kirilenko's bucket had it at 89-83 with five minutes left, but Keith Bogans drilled a three-pointer from the right corner to stem the tide.

The Jazz made one last push, getting within 92-87, but Lewis countered with a three-point play to start an 11-4 rally.

Utah held a 26-25 edge after the first quarter and a Williams three-pointer with a minute left accounted for the 56-46 margin at the half.
