Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Rudy Gay scored a game-high 29 points on 12-of- 21 shooting, and the Memphis Grizzlies put together their first three-game win streak in over 1 1/2 years with a 103-96 victory over the Chicago Bulls.
The last time the Grizzlies put together a three-game win streak was the final three games of the 2006-2007 season. Memphis will host Miami on Sunday for a chance at a four-game win streak, a feat the team hasn't accomplished since Memphis won five in a row and eight of nine to finish the 2005-2006 season, when the Grizzlies went 49-33 and made the playoffs.
Hakim Warrick contributed a season-high 21 points, while Darko Milicic had a season-high 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win for Memphis, which has won four of five. O.J. Mayo added 14 points, while Marc Gasol provided 11 points.
Ben Gordon had a team-high 26 points on 7-of-11 three-point shooting for the Bulls, who had won their previous two games. Derrick Rose poured in 12 points and dished out 11 assists in the loss, while Luol Deng added 19 points for Chicago. Larry Hughes had 12 points, and Drew Gooden had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Down 54-52 at halftime, the Grizzlies took a 64-63 lead on Kyle Lowry's three- point play early in the third quarter. A 12-4 burst late in the quarter -- helped by five Gasol points -- gave Memphis an 11-point lead, and the hosts took a 83-74 advantage to the fourth.
Rose's basket from in close brought the Bulls to within six with 5:28 left, but Warrick hit two consecutive shots to give Memphis a 10-point lead with four minutes to play.
The Bulls got as close as six in the final minute, but never put together a sustained offensive threat to challenge the Grizzlies.
Chicago jumped out to a quick 16-6 lead behind 10 early points from Gordon, and the sharpshooter had 18 total points -- including 5-of-6 from three-point range -- in the quarter, as the Bulls led, 30-22, after the opening period.
Memphis opened the second on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 30, but Chicago went on a 15-6 flurry to seize a 54-45 lead on Deng's jumper. The Grizzlies closed the half on a 7-0 in the final 1 1/2 minutes to account for Memphis' two-point deficit at halftime.
The season series is tied, 1-1...The home team has now won nine straight and 16-of-18 in the all-time series...The Grizzlies will host the next four games against Miami, New Orleans, Charlotte, and the Lakers.
