NBA Game Summary - Houston at Memphis

(Wednesday, February 4th)

Final Score: Memphis 104, Houston 93

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - O.J. Mayo scored a game-best 32 points on 13- of-22 shooting to help the Memphis Grizzlies upend the Houston Rockets, 104-93, at FedEx Forum.

Rudy Gay added 18 points and nine rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have won two in a row on the heels of an ugly 12-game slide. Hakim Warrick totaled 17 points and eight boards in the win, while Marc Gasol and Mike Conley each dropped 10 points. Conley also had nine boards and seven helpers.

Memphis got a boost Wednesday with the return of Darko Milicic, who missed the last 18 games with a broken hand. He finished with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting in just over 14 1/2 minutes.

Tracy McGrady ended with 21 points and Yao Ming 20 with nine boards for the Rockets, who had a brief two-game win streak halted. Rafer Alston donated 15 points and six assists in defeat.

The clubs played to a 31-31 tie after the first quarter, but Memphis opened a 58-55 lead at the intermission.

Conley's three-pointer closed out a 12-4 Memphis run that gave the Grizzlies a 76-61 lead with 7:13 left in the third.

The teams traded baskets and the Grizzlies were on top, 88-74, heading into the final 12 minutes.

Down by 15 early in the fourth, Von Wafer's three-pointer sparked a 14-3 Houston run that pulled the Rockets within 97-93. Yao closed the surge with a pair from the foul line with 4:16 left.

"In the fourth quarter we picked it up," said Rockets head coach Rick Adelman. "At that point everything's got to go right for you, we waited too long."

Houston had a problem, though, as it was held scoreless for the rest of the game.

"I had a hot hand tonight and I had confidence to make plays," said Mayo. "For myself, it was pretty successful tonight."
