Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Caron Butler poured in 35 points with eight rebounds and six assists as the Washington Wizards earned a 124-100 victory over the Golden State Warriors in Ed Tapscott's debut as interim head coach.
Antawn Jamison and Andray Blatche each dropped 25 points with Jamison grabbing 11 boards and Blatche 12 to go along with five assists and five blocks in a dominating performance for the Wizards, who on Monday fired head coach Eddie Jordan and notched just their second win of the season Tuesday.
Jordan was in his sixth season with Wizards and has posted a record of 197-224. He guided the club to the playoffs each of the past four seasons -- the longest consecutive stretch for the franchise since a five-year run from 1983-84 through 1987-88.
Washington snapped a five-game losing streak and picked up a win for the first time since getting its only win of the season on November 12 against the Utah Jazz. The Wizards improved to 2-10 on the season in what was the opener of a three-game homestand.
Washington won the rebounding battle, 54-40, and shot 50.5 percent (53-of-105) from the floor en route to the win.
Corey Maggette led the way with 17 points for the Warriors, who have lost three straight and six of nine overall, having started a five-game road trip with an 0-2 mark.
Stephen Jackson netted 16 points and dished out eight assists while Kelenna Azubuike and Andris Biedrins finished with 15 points each in the loss.
Guard Jamal Crawford, who was recently acquired in a trade with the New York Knicks for Al Harrington, made his debut for the Warriors and was 4-of-10 shooting for nine points with seven assists.
The Wizards held a 32-26 lead after one quarter and widened their lead to a 63-49 margin at halftime. Washington ended the third on an 11-4 run to gain a 93-72 advantage.
Golden State never got themselves back in it as a Butler three-pointer made it 113-85 midway through the fourth and the Wizards cruised to victory from there.
The Warriors won both meetings with the Wizards last season and had a three- game winning streak in the series halted...Golden State has now lost four of its last six at Washington and is 2-5 away from Oakland this season, with scheduled visits to Boston, Cleveland and New York left on the swing...Washington will host Orlando and Atlanta to close out the homestand...JaVale McGee had 14 points and Dee Brown 10 for Washington.
