Philadelphia 76ers 2014 Draft Preview

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia 76ers tanked the regular season.

In an effort to get the highest draft pick possible, the Sixers formed a roster that could marginally be described as professional. The move panned out to some degree as Philly will pick third.

General manager Sam Hinkie acquired this year's No. 10 pick on draft night last year in a deal for Jrue Holiday. Philadelphia also got Nerlens Noel, who missed the entire season with a knee injury.

At No. 3, the Sixers can wait for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks to do their business and take the remaining player. The trio at the top, of course, is Duke's Jabari Parker and Kansas teammates Joel Embiid and Andrew Wiggins.

By all accounts, the Sixers prefer Wiggins, but he could easily go one or two. They have been linked to trying to trade up to get the No. 1 pick but won't if the price tag is too steep. (They won't give up three and 10 for No. 1.)

The Sixers and Embiid aren't a great fit, but if he's the guy, so be it. Wiggins and Parker fit immediate needs at the small-forward spot. Parker can score at an NBA level immediately.

At No. 10, the 76ers need shooting and scoring. Michigan State's Gary Harris, Michigan's Nick Stauskas, or Creighton's Doug McDermott all make sense.

Hinkie loves accumulating assets and five second-round picks would qualify as accumulating assets. There could be quite a bit of talent in round two, or the Sixers could package some of them to move into the late first round for a foreign player to stash.

Draft night will be very Sixers-centric. With seven choices, they need to perform wisely.
