Irving shines as Cavs edge Blazers
Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Kyrie Irving sank clutch shots late and finished with a game-high 31 points, as the Cleveland Cavaliers held on for a 93-88 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
Irving put his team ahead for good with a pullup jumper late in the contest and sank a pair of free throws to put the game on ice, ending a four-game road skid for the Cavs. He also added five assists and four steals.
Tristan Thompson tallied a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds and Tyler Zeller added 11 points and nine boards in the triumph.
Portland once again suffered defeat in heartbreaking fashion after rallying from a 19-point deficit to take the lead. Nicolas Batum, LaMarcus Aldridge and J.J. Hickson all posted double-doubles, but the Trail Blazers dropped their fourth straight game.
Batum scored a team-high 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but committed nine of Portland's 19 turnovers. Aldridge tallied 15 points and 10 boards and Hickson finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
