Cleveland's Irving fractures hand at practice

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving will undergo a surgical procedure on his right hand Wednesday.

Irving suffered a right hand fracture during Saturday morning's summer league practice.

The point guard slapped the padding on the wall at the practice site and x- rays taken at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas confirmed the fracture.

Irving returned to Cleveland on Sunday with Cavaliers head athletic trainer Max Benton and was seen by head team physician Dr. Richard Parker and Dr. Thomas Graham at the Cleveland Clinic Sports Health on Monday, who confirmed the fracture.

The 20-year-old Duke product averaged 18.5 points and 5.4 assists over 51 games during his rookie campaign with the Cavaliers en route to earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors.

He is projected to be ready for the start of training camp in late September.
