Don't mess with Texas: Mavs pay a visit to Spurs

(Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs will shoot for their seventh straight win when they close out a three-game homestand tonight versus the Southwest Division-rival Dallas Mavericks at the AT&T Center.

The division-leading Spurs are 2-0 so far on the homestand and 23-5 as the host in 2007-08. They recorded an 89-74 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, as Tim Duncan had 23 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots to help San Antonio overcome a terrible first quarter.

Tony Parker scored 15 points and dished out a game-high nine assists for the Spurs, who posted just five points in the opening 12 minutes. Manu Ginobili contributed 13 points in San Antonio's 10th victory in 11 tries. Kurt Thomas, who was acquired from the Sonics last Wednesday, made his San Antonio debut with nine boards against the Hawks.

San Antonio, which has won three in a row at the AT&T Center, is a half game ahead of New Orleans and a game in front of Dallas in the Southwest standings.

Dallas has won three straight games and will hit the road on Thursday. It has won two in a row as the visitor and owns a 14-16 mark away from American Airlines Center this season.

The Mavericks are well rested after Monday's 102-94 home victory over the Chicago Bulls. Dirk Nowitzki scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the charge. Jason Kidd posted 11 points, nine boards and eight assists for the Mavs in his first home game since being acquired from New Jersey last week.

Dallas came out on top despite committing 21 turnovers.

On the injury front for Dallas, guard Eddie Jones (stomach virus) is questionable for Thursday's game against San Antonio.

Thursday's showdown between Dallas and San Antonio is the third of four matchups this season. Both teams have split a pair of meetings so far, while Dallas has won four of five and five of the last seven encounters.

The Mavericks, who are slated to host the Spurs on March 23 at American Airlines Center, have won three of their last four trips to San Antonio. These teams have split the last 10 matchups at the AT&T Center.
