Stenhouse Jr. grabs pole for Richmond Nationwide race
Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Defending Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will start on the pole for Friday night's Virginia 529 College Savings 250 after posting the fastest lap in qualifying at Richmond International Raceway.
Stenhouse, who was the second-to-last driver to qualify in the 47-car field, turned a lap at 122.822 mph for his fourth pole of the season and the eighth of his Nationwide career.
Rookie Austin Dillon will start alongside Stenhouse on the front row after posting a qualifying lap of 122.294 mph. Kevin Harvick qualified third, followed by Sam Hornish Jr. and Travis Pastrana, who was quickest in practice earlier in the day. Pastrana is driving the No. 60 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing.
Denny Hamlin, Brian Scott, Johanna Long, Mike Bliss and Justin Allgaier completed the top-10.
Elliott Sadler, the current points leader, will start 12th, while Danica Patrick will roll off in 24th.
Sadler holds a just a 12-point lead over Stenhouse.
Joey Gase, David Starr, Morgan Shepherd and Mike Harmon failed to qualify for the 250-lap race at Richmond, which is scheduled to start just after 7:30 p.m. (ET).
