Logano claims pole for Nationwide race at Charlotte
Concord, NC (Sports Network) - Joey Logano earned the pole for Saturday's History 300 Nationwide Series race after posting the fastest lap in qualifying at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Logano, who turned 22 years old on Thursday, turned a lap at 179.063 mph for his third Nationwide pole of the season and the 19th of his career. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver will attempt to win his third straight race in the series. He won at Talladega and Darlington earlier this month. Logano did not compete in last Sunday's event at Iowa.
Rookie Austin Dillon will start on the outside pole with a qualifying lap at 178.968 mph. Danica Patrick captured the third starting spot after her run at 178.932 mph.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the current points leader, and Sam Hornish Jr. qualified fourth and fifth, respectively.
Elliott Sadler, Kevin Harvick, James Buescher, Brian Scott and Brad Keselowski completed the top-10.
All 43 drivers who attempted qualifying made the starting field for this 300- mile race, which is scheduled to start at 2:45 p.m. (ET).
