4/3/2014 8:32:00 PM
Description: Rays utility man Sean Rodriguez has been placed on paternity leave.
Insight: Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy got some heat on talk radio for beginning the season on paternity leave though we doubt Rodriguez will receive as much criticism. The Rays don't really have a spot for Rodriguez right now and neither should fantasy owners.
8/1/2012 2:48:00 PM
Description: Shortstop Sean Rodriguez will take a seat Wednesday in Tampa Bay's series finale versus Oakland.
Insight: Elliott Johnson (.252, 4 HRs, 27 RBIs) will get the start Wednesday in Rodriguez's place.
Cold7/22/2012 2:14:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay shortstop Sean Rodriguez got the day off Sunday against the Mariners.
Insight: Rodriguez (.214, 6 HRs, 27 RBIs) is 2-for-17 in his last 10 games and has seen his playing time dwindle in recent weeks in large part due to his offensive inactivity.
7/15/2012 1:29:00 PM
Description: Rays shortstop Sean Rodriguez is out for Sunday afternoon's matchup against the Red Sox.
Insight: Rodriguez has had a tough year at the plate (.221, 6 HRs, 27 RBIs). Perhaps that's why he's owned in only eight percent of fantasy leagues.
6/30/2012 7:10:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay shortstop Sean Rodriguez is not in the lineup for Saturday night's tilt versus Detroit.
Insight: With Rodriguez (.214, 5 HRs, 22 RBIs) continuing to struggle at the plate, he'll get the night off in favor of Elliot Johnson (.271, 4 HRs, 20 RBIs).
6/28/2012 6:09:00 PM
Description: Rays shortstop Sean Rodriguez will get a breather Thursday night against Detroit.
Insight: Rodriguez (.214) has played in 72 of Tampa Bay's 75 games this season but has only managed five homers and 22 RBIs in that span. In his last 10 games, Rodriguez is hitting a mere .172 (5-29) with no homers and three RBIs.
6/19/2012 5:50:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay shortstop Sean Rodriguez will take a seat for Tuesday night's game against the Nationals.
Insight: Even playing at a shallow position, Rodriguez hasn't been able to make much noise in fantasy this year. He's hitting only .217 with 5 HRs and 19 RBIs in 63 games this season.
5/27/2012 6:57:00 PM
Description: Sean Rodriguez went 2-4 Sunday in Tampa Bay's win over the Red Sox. Rodriguez's second hit of the day, a two-run homer to left field with one out in the top of the ninth inning, gave the Rays a 4-3 lead.
Insight: Boston was two outs away from being over .500 but Rodriguez had other plans. The monster blast was Rodriguez's fifth of the season and it bumped his RBI total to 16. He's hitting .241 in 145 at bats in 2012.
5/23/2012 9:30:00 AM
Description: Rays middle infielder Sean Rodriguez shouldn't be in any starting lineups against Toronto starter Ricky Romero as he's a lifetime .063 hitter (1-for-16) against the Blue Jays hurler.
Insight: Rodriguez is a very good utility player for Tampa and with their injuries has played in 42 of 44 games this season. He's got a mediocre batting average, but does contribute in all other categories. Wednesday, however, will not likely be a good day for you to have him in your lineup.
5/18/2012 7:03:00 PM
Description: Sean Rodriguez won't start on Friday against the Braves.
Insight: Rodriguez has played in 37 of the Rays' 39 games this year and he hasn't had a day off since Tampa Bay's off day on May 7th so he is about due for a rest. For the season, he's hitting .246 with 3 HRs and 12 RBIs. He also has a pair of stolen bases.
4/4/2012 11:21:00 AM
Description: Manager Joe Maddon said that Sean Rodriguez will get the majority of the playing time at shortstop for Tampa Bay in 2012 with Reid Brignac and Elliot Johnson filling in as needed.
Insight: Rodriguez has never had more than 375 at-bats in a season, so this is his best shot at a full-time gig. With 500 at-bats he should be able to hit 12-15 homers and steal 20 bases, but a low batting average hurts his fantasy value. He's a lifetime .229 hitter.
4/7/2011 10:40:00 AM
Description: Sean Rodriguez will start at third base once again for the Rays, while Evan Longoria will be out at least three weeks with a strained left oblique. SOURCE: Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times
Insight: Rodriguez has hit well in spring, but has yet to prove himself during the regular season. Still, with Longoria's injury, he will get the majority of playing time and can raise his appeal in mixed leagues if he starts to hit well.
3/30/2011 8:59:00 PM
Description: Sean Rodriguez stole his sixth base of spring training today.
Insight: If Rodriguez can hold onto an everyday role all season don't be surprised to see him steal close to 20 bases and hit about 15 homers too. That means mixed league value!
3/29/2011 5:02:00 PM
Description: Rays Sean Rodriguez stole two more bases today bringing his spring total to five. Rodriguez qualifies at a few positions and is showing that he is going to be more aggressive on the base paths this year.
Insight: Rodriguez also looked like a stud last spring hitting over .400 so don't get too hyped on him until he shows he can do it when the bright lights are on.
3/9/2011 5:59:00 AM
Description: Sean Rodriguez stole his third base of spring training yesterday.
Insight: He has more potential than most late round 2B because of his ability to hit 15 homers and steal 15 bases if he gets regular playing time all season. His batting average, which is sometimes low, will be the deciding factor.
3/2/2011 6:22:00 AM
Description: The Rays plan to use Sean Rodriguez as their backup SS this year even though he is their starting 2B. SOURCE: TBO
Insight: That likely makes Ben Zobrist their backup 2B. If/when injuries strike, the Rays will be in quite the lineup shuffle. Hopefully that would give Desmond Jennings a chance if he doesn't make the team out of spring training.
2/26/2011 4:14:00 PM
Description: Sean Rodriguez started off spring training with a home run in his first game today.
Insight: He has plenty of power and if he can reach 500 at-bats this year (which he should) as Tampa's regular second baseman then we could be looking at a real sleeper.
9/2/2010 9:00:00 AM
Description: Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with a triple, home run, RBI, walk and a steal on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Insight: Rodriguez is now batting .264 with two triples, nine home runs and 38 RBI so far this year. (RapidDraft.com)
8/22/2010 7:13:00 AM
Description: Sean Rodriguez stole a base and then hit a go-ahead eighth inning home run last night.
Insight: He is playing part-time right now but he has the ability to get hot and take the 2B job over at some point.
8/4/2010 7:50:00 AM
Description: Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBI, two walks, stolen base and a run scored on Tuesday against the Twins.
Insight: Rodriguez has hits in six of his last seven games and now has seven home runs, 34 RBI and eight steals so far this season. (SportsBuff.com)
