Description: Angels third baseman David Freese hit the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday at Detroit.

Description: Los Angeles third baseman David Freese was doubtful for Thursday's game against Minnesota, but is in the starting lineup.

Insight: Freese (.226, 2 HR, 18 RBI) got hit in the elbow yesterday and will need a day or two to recover. Grant Green (.333, 1 HR, 6 RBI) will get the start at third base.

5/19/2014 9:10:00 PM
Description: Angels third baseman David Freese (finger) could be back Tuesday, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. He's homered twice in three rehab games.

5/4/2014 11:00:00 AM
Description: The Angels have gone ahead and placed third baseman David Freese on the 15-day DL. SOURCE: Jeff Fletcher, Orange County Register
Insight: He's been diagnosed with a broken middle finger. The team expects Freese to return as soon as his 15 days are up. Luis Jimenez (.000, 0 HR, 0 RBI) and Ian Stewart (.220, 2 HR, 6 RBI) will split playing time at third base while he's out.

5/3/2014 11:30:00 AM
Description: The Angels will probably be without third baseman David Freese Saturday when they take on the Rangers. SOURCE: Scott Braun, MLB Network
Insight: Freese (.202, 2 HR, 8 RBI) has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture in his right middle finger. Doctors said he won't make the injury worse by playing so Freese doesn't expect to go on the DL. For now, consider him day-to-day.

4/25/2014 4:19:00 PM
Description: Angels third baseman David Freese is not in Friday's starting lineup against the Yankees. Ian Stewart will get the start.
Insight: Freese can't buy a hit right now, batting .145 in 17 games including one his in his last 15 tries. When will the guy who slammed 20 HR and 79 RBI with an .839 OPS in 2012 for the Cardinals return?

4/7/2014 12:10:00 PM
Description: Angels third baseman David Freese is not in Monday's starting lineup against Houston.
Insight: Freese is off to an ugly start (.162, zero homers, two RBI) and will sit while Ian Stewart gets the start. Stewart has just one at-bat this season. A solid power guy in Colorado, he's yet to prove he can hit elsewhere.

3/25/2014 7:55:00 PM
Description: Angels third baseman David Freese is expected to return to the lineup Thursday after sitting out Tuesday with tightness in his quad, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.
Insight: Freese batted just .262 with nine home runs, 60 RBI and a 721 OPS last year with the Cardinals, down from .293 with 20 homers, 79 RBI and an .839 OPS the year before. He's 11-for-44 (.250) with 11 singles this spring.

11/22/2013 5:31:00 PM
Description: The Angels have acquired third baseman David Freese and reliever Fernando Salas from the Cardinals for Peter Bourjos and Randal Grichuk.
Insight: Freese, the 2011 ALCS and World Series MVP and a 2012 NL All-Star, hit just .262 with nine homers, 60 RBI and a .721 OPS in 138 games this past season before hitting under .200 in all three postseason series.

10/15/2013 5:17:00 PM
Description: St. Louis third baseman David Freese (calf) is in the lineup in Game 4 of the NLCS Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Freese left early in Game 3 due to right calf tightness but it wasn't a serious concern. The third baseman is only hitting .192 with one home run, four RBI and a .596 OPS in eight games this postseason.

10/14/2013 10:40:00 PM
Description: St. Louis third baseman David Freese exited Monday's Game 3 because of calf tightness. SOURCE: Bill Shaikin, Los Angeles Times
Insight: He went 1-for-2 with a single before leaving. Matt Carpenter is now at third base with Kolten Wong taking over for Carpenter at second. The injury isn't considered serious and Freese should be able to play tomorrow night in Game 4.

10/10/2013 9:46:00 AM
Description: David Freese got the Cardinals off to a good start Wednesday by bashing his seventh career postseason homer.
Insight: Say what you want about his regular season play but when it comes to the playoffs, few players in the league have been as reliable as Freese. He's now produced an absurd 1.001 OPS in 126 postseason at bats. Expect more of the same from Freese in the NLCS.

10/6/2013 11:14:00 AM
Description: Cardinals third baseman David Freese has never had much success against the Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano - he's hitless in eight at-bats.
Insight: Freese's batting average dropped 31 points this season and his OPS 118 points. He's 2-for-6 in the first two games of the series, but this is an unfavorable matchup to be avoided.

10/3/2013 10:16:00 AM
Description: While Cardinals teammate Matt Carpenter has been terrific against A.J. Burnett in the past, third baseman David Freese has never had much success against the Pirates righthander.
Insight: Freese enters Thursday's contest with just one hit in 11 at bats against Burnett. After hitting .293 or better in three consecutive seasons, Freese slumped all the way to .260 in 138 games in 2013.

9/28/2013 9:56:00 AM
Description: St. Louis third baseman David Freese went 1-for-3 with a solo homer Friday against the Cubs.
Insight: Freese has really regressed this season, hitting .262 with nine homers, 60 RBI and a .721 OPS in 462 at-bats after batting .296 from 2009-12 and blasting 20 homers last year. However, fantasy owners in playoff leagues should not forget his epic 2011 postseason.

9/4/2013 12:32:00 PM
Description: Using St. Louis third baseman David Freese on Wednesday would be a waste of a lineup spot.
Insight: Freese, who has seen his playing time reduced since Kolten Wang's callup from Triple-A, is a pitiful .118 career hitter against Bronson Arroyo. Once a fantasy staple, Freese (.261, 6 HR, 50 RBI) is a fringe player nowadays.

8/26/2013 11:41:00 AM
Description: Cardinals third baseman David Freese is 7-for-13 (.538) with a home run and a 1.495 OPS versus Cincinnati starter Mike Leake.
Insight: Freese now finds himself in a timeshare with recent callup Kolten Wang. Freese (.265, 6 HR, 47 RBI in 109 games) was an All-Star in 2012 but this season he's been a disappointment. If he's in the lineup, he could be worth a flier.
