Description: Colorado righthander Juan Nicasio hurled six scoreless innings Sunday against the Giants.
Insight: Sunday was just Nicasio's second quality start of the season. He'll go for his fifth win Saturday in San Francisco.

Description: Rockies manager Walt Weiss confirmed that Juan Nicasio will have a spot in the starting rotation, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Insight: Nicasio has added an improved changeup to his mid-90s fastball and could be a decent sleeper if he continues to mix his pitches well. He admitted that he'll need the changeup to be effective at Coors Field, where he posted a 7.24 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in 32 1/3 innings last season compared to 2.81 and 1.29 in 25 2/3 on the road.

Description: Rockies starter Juan Nicasio will have surgery on July 16 to remove a "floating body" in his left knee.
Insight: Nicasio hasn't pitched in a game since June 2 and it's unlikely that he'll pitch in another one anytime soon. Nicasio hasn't had a great year for the Rockies (2-3, 5.28 ERA in 11 starts) but the fact that he was able to pitch at all this season after breaking his neck last August is still a small miracle.

Description: Rockies starter Juan Nicasio has been placed on the 15-day DL. He strained his left knee pitching Saturday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Pitching at Coors Field is always a tough assignment so it should come as no surprise that Nicasio's stats at home this season have been disastrous (2-2, 7.24 ERA). However, he has been excellent in his four road starts this season (0-1, 2.81 ERA). Either way, he'll be on the shelf for a while with Guillermo Moscoso inheriting his role in the starting rotation.

4/8/2012 8:59:00 PM
Description: Juan Nicasio's return to the Rockies' starting rotation Sunday was a success. Less than a year after a line drive fractured his neck and skull in a horrific scene last August, Nicasio was able to make it through seven innings of work, allowing just five hits and one run.
Insight: Nicasio struck out four and walked one while picking up a no-decision. Nicasio only has 14 major league starts under his belt so it's difficult to judge his fantasy potential just yet, but if Sunday's performance is any indication, Nicasio looks like the real deal. It really is a miracle that Nicasio is back in the big leagues after the gruesome injury he suffered last summer.
