Description: Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton could be headed for Tommy John surgery. He was placed on the DL on June 1st because of right elbow inflammation.

Description: The Pirates placed right-handed starter Charlie Morton (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation.
Insight: Morton has just two wins with a 4.65 ERA and 1.45 WHIP this season , so he won't be difficult to replace. Reliever Brad Lincoln (3-0, 1.07 ERA, 0.87 WHIP) and the injured Jeff Karstens are candidates to replace Morton in the rotation.

Description: Charlie Morton (hip) will begin the season on the disabled list.
Insight: This is just to buy Morton a little extra time as he continues his recovery from offseason hip surgery. Opponents have hit Morton pretty hard this spring (7.07 ERA in 14 innings) but we're sure he'll round into form eventually. Morton was 10-10 with a 3.83 ERA for Pittsburgh in 2011.

Description: The Pirates could skip SP Charlie Morton's turn in the rotation at some point, believing that his recent struggles might be attributable to overuse. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: Morton has struggled over his last three starts so the NL hitters might have figured him out. With just 50 K's in 86 innings, he is hard to use in mixed leagues and the time to sell high on him has passed.

5/1/2011 5:47:00 PM
Description: Pirates SP Charlie Morton allowed 4 runs in 5 1/3 innings, giving up 7 hits and walking 5 in the victory over the Rockies.

Description: Charlie Morton got away with five walks over six innings last night but still only allowed one run in a win over St. Louis.
