Description: New York starter Zack Wheeler will not pitch again in 2013. SOURCE: Adam Rubin, ESPN New York
Insight: The Mets are shutting him down because of shoulder stiffness. The righthander will finish his rookie season with seven wins, five losses and a 3.42 ERA in 17 starts.

9/20/2013 7:04:00 PM
Description: If Mets starter Zack Wheeler throws seven or eight innings in his next start, it will likely be his last of the year, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Insight: Wheeler has thrown 168 2/3 innings this season between the minors and majors, and the team will limit him to 180 or less. Instead of giving him two starts totaling 10-11 innings, however, manager Terry Collins may give him seven or eight in his next start and call it a season.

9/11/2013 10:38:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler was the tough-luck loser Wednesday against the Nationals.
Insight: Wheeler took the L despite giving up one run and striking out six in seven innings. After struggling with his control early (4.97 BB/9 first 50 2/3 innings), Wheeler has posted a 2.44 ERA, a 2.44 BB/9 and 40 strikeouts in his last 44 1/3 innings.

9/3/2013 7:27:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler has about 28 more innings left before he reaches his limit, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNY.com.
Insight: That should get Wheeler through another four starts. His turn would come up five times in September if the Mets go with a five-man rotation. The 23-year-old rookie has gone 7-3 with a 3.36 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 83 innings since being promoted from Triple-A.

8/20/2013 10:34:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler threw another quality start Tuesday against the Braves.
Insight: Coming off his six-inning, 12-strikeout game at San Diego, Wheeler allowed six hits and three earned runs with a 5/3 K/BB over six innings. The right-hander has thrown three straight quality starts and is 6-2 with a 3.49 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP.

8/11/2013 9:45:00 AM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler beat Arizona with 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball Saturday night. He allowed six hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out four. It was his first start without walking a batter; he came in with a 4.97 BB/9.
Insight: Wheeler's start came after Mets manager Terry Collins said the plan to have the young righty pitch in relief later this season to conserve his innings was off the table. Wheeler is expected to remain in the rotation until he hits 180-190 innings combined between the minors and majors. He has around 55-65 innings remaining, so he should be able to finish the season in the rotation.

8/10/2013 7:43:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler will not pitch in relief this season, according to ESPNNY.com. Mets manager Terry Collins had previously mentioned the idea to conserve the rookie's innings, but he said Saturday that the plan is off the table.
Insight: Collins estimated that Wheeler will be capped at 180-190 innings this season. Heading into Saturday's start against the Diamondbacks, Wheeler had 119 1/3 between the minors and majors, so he should have enough remaining to finish the season as a starter without getting shut down.

7/10/2013 8:27:00 PM
Description: New York rookie Zack Wheeler dominated San Francisco Wednesday in his fifth career major league start.
Insight: Wheeler (7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K's) couldn't have picked a better time to face the Giants. The defending champs have now lost eight out of nine and are hitting a league-worst .194 in the month of June. The 23-year-old will head into the All-Star break with a 3-1 record.

6/24/2013 1:59:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Zack Wheeler won his major league debut last Tuesday against the Braves and will get a chance to double the total on Tuesday in Chicago against the White Sox.
Insight: The 23-year-old appeared nervous, which manifested itself in walks (5), but he showed all the skills that will make him a coveted fantasy pitcher - zero earned runs and just four hits along with seven strikeouts in six innings. If you haven't picked him up in your league it's probably too late, but check to see if he's available anyway.

6/18/2013 10:56:00 PM
Description: Zack Wheeler won his major league debut Tuesday against the Braves.
Insight: He finished with seven strikeouts in six shutout innings. Walks were an issue for Wheeler (he handed out five free passes) but that's to be expected from a nervous 23-year-old in his first major league start. The Mets haven't announced when his next start will be but we're confident Wheeler will stay in the rotation.

6/18/2013 1:01:00 PM
Description: The Mets have officially called up prospect Zack Wheeler. He'll start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Braves.
Insight: The 23-year-old is one of the top prospects in all of baseball. He went 4-2 with a 3.93 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings with Triple-A Las Vegas this season.

6/7/2013 6:24:00 PM
Description: According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com, the Mets are eyeing next Friday's game against the Cubs for Zack Wheeler to make his major league debut.
Insight: The 23-year-old is 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA with Triple-A Las Vegas this season. He's one of the top prospects in all of baseball and should be added in all fantasy leagues prior to next Friday.

6/3/2013 12:02:00 PM
Description: Top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler is expected to make one more start before facing the Cubs in the Mets' next homestand. SOURCE: New York Post
Insight: That fits right in the schedule so that he'll avoid earning "Super Two status." The 22-year-old should end up being a No. 2 starter behind Matt Harvey. Both pitchers have a bright future with the Mets.

5/23/2013 6:46:00 PM
Description: A high-ranking team official told the New York Post Thursday that barring an injury, top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler is expected to make 2-3 more starts with Triple-A Las Vegas before joining the big league club. SOURCE: Mike Puma, New York Post
Insight: Wheeler missed a start last Friday due to soreness in his clavicle area near his right shoulder, but he returned Wednesday. "If not for the minor setback with the shoulder, he might already be here," the club official said. "We are at the point where you can say it's probably two or three more starts (for Las Vegas)." The flamethrowing Wheeler is 3-1 with a 3.91 ERA with Las Vegas and should be stashed in most leagues.

5/15/2013 4:58:00 PM
Description: Doctors found no structural damage in Mets prospect Zack Wheeler's clavicle area. SOURCE: NJ.com
Insight: Wheeler reported soreness around his right clavicle Monday. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 3.74 ERA and a 47/18 K/BB in 43 1/3 innings with Triple-A Las Vegas this season.

4/12/2013 2:06:00 PM
Description: If you are holding onto Mets' stud pitching prospect Zack Wheeler in hopes of an early-season call up, his first two starts at Las Vegas aren't going to make you happy.
Insight: Wheeler dealt with a mild oblique strain which may have him a little behind at the moment and could explain his first two starts. He yielded 11 hits and six walks over 8 2/3 innings pitched. Wheeler was solid last season with a 12-8 record a 3.26 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 149 innings and should eventually join Matt Harvey has the core of the Mets pitching staff.

2/28/2013 2:06:00 PM
Description: Mets pitching prospect Zack Wheeler (oblique) won't resume throwing for at least a week, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post, but his oblique strain is not as bad as initially feared.
Insight: Wheeler is expected to start the season in Triple-A so a mild oblique strain won't come into play in fantasy leagues. He could join the big league rotation in midseason but the Mets have been reluctant to rush him despite posting a 3.26 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 149 innings in the minors last season.

7/30/2012 10:56:00 PM
Description: Mets pitching prospect Zack Wheeler will be promoted to Triple-A Buffalo Sunday after making one more start at Double-A Tuesday, ESPN.com reports.
Insight: Mets manager Terry Collins said two weeks ago that Wheeler wouldn't pitch in the big leagues this season, but then the team considered bringing him up last week following Matt Harvey's promotion. While Wheeler has a bright future, he may not make it to the big leagues in time to contribute to fantasy teams this season.

7/17/2012 5:46:00 PM
Description: While the Mets won't promote pitching prospect Matt Harvey for Saturday's start, there's a chance he'll be called upon at some point this season. However, Mets manager Terry Collins said Tuesday that the team's other pitching prospect, Zack Wheeler, won't pitch for the team at all this season, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
Insight: Wheeler has gone 9-4 with a 2.39 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 101 2/3 innings over 16 starts with Double-A Binghamton this season. He'll likely be promoted to Triple-A soon, but he'll have to wait until at least next year for a big league callup.

6/8/2012 4:33:00 PM
Description: New York Mets pitching prospect Zack Wheeler (Double-A Binghamton) held Harrisburg to one unearned run on two hits over seven innings to improve to 6-2 Thursday. Wheeler, New York's top propsect and the No. 25 overall player on MLB.com's list of top 100 prospects, was acquired from the Giants for Carlos Beltran last season.
Insight: Wheeler is clearly ready to move up to Triple-A, as he has a 1.66 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings over 10 starts at Double-A. He's also held batters to a .160 BAA while allowing just 32 hits. With the Mets surprisingly 1.5 games out in a very winnable NL East, we may see the team plan to bring Wheeler or other elite pitching prospect Matt Harvey up to the big leagues to help the team in the second half. But he'll have to get the call to Triple-A first.
