Insight: Ryu has been out since Aug. 13 due to a strained glute. He'll throw a simulated game Wednesday.

Description: Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right gluteus muscle.
Insight: Ryu left his last start with the injury. The Dodgers' rotation has taken a hit this month with both Ryu and Josh Beckett going on the disabled list. The team acquired Kevin Correia and Roberto Hernandez to plug the holes and both will be in the rotation for at least two more weeks.

Insight: Ryu allowed two runs on five hits, walked one and struck out five over seven innings. He's given up seven hits and two runs over 13 innings in two starts since he was bombed for seven runs on 10 hits in 2 1/3 on July 8 at Detroit.

Insight: He's been out with a shoulder injury but has yet to resume throwing. Before the injury, Ryu had been off to a decent start (3-2, 3.00 ERA in 39 IP). Paul Maholm (1-2, 4.70 ERA) has been filling in for Ryu in the starting rotation.

Insight: This time he outdueled Giants ace Madison Bumgarner (4 1/3 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 6 K's, 3 BB) for his third win of the season. Ryu isn't striking that many hitters out (25 K's in five starts) but he isn't walking many either (nine free passes in 28 IP).

Insight: The MLB season is only three games old and we've already seen Ryu pitch twice, allowing just five hits over 12 shutout innings. Unfortunately, setup man Brian Wilson blew the lead, costing Ryu what would have been his second win of the season. Ryu's next start is scheduled for Friday against the Giants.
