Insight: Kershaw had a 1.74 ERA and a 25/1 K/BB in his first three starts this season, but Arizona treated him to an early shower Saturday. Kershaw didn't allow more than five earned runs in any regular season start last year. In fact, there were two months in which he gave up less than seven earned runs. He'll try to chip away at his 4.43 ERA and 1.34 WHIP at Philadelphia his next time out.

Insight: Kershaw allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings on March 22 against Arizona in Australia but went on the DL with a teres major muscle (upper back) strain soon thereafter. The 2013 NL Cy Young Award winner threw 200+ innings and struck out 200+ batters in each of the last four seasons and had aan ERA below 3.00 in each of the last five.

Insight: The two sides have until Friday's arbitration deadline to hammer out a deal. Kershaw's contract is expected to be well over $200 million. With two Cy Young awards in the last three seasons, Kershaw deserves to be the highest-paid pitcher in the league. Soon, he will be.
