(Sports Network) - Kyle Kendrick takes another shot at his first win of the
season this evening when the Philadelphia Phillies continue a four-game set
with the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
Kendrick pitched well enough to get his first win on Monday against
Washington, but his offense wasn't up to the task. Kendrick gave up two runs
and five hits in a season-high five innings of that one, but was saddled with
the loss, dropping him to 0-4 to go along with a 5.23 earned run average.
He has a 2.25 ERA in his last four starts, but is 0-2.
Kendrick has had some success against the Cards, posting a 4-1 mark with a
3.32 ERA in seven games, five of which have been starts.
Getting the ball for the Cardinals tonight will be lefty Jaime Garcia, who is
3-2 with a 3.55 ERA. Garcia did not get a decision on Monday against San
Diego, but pitched well, surrendering a pair of runs and seven hits and struck
out seven in seven innings of a 4-3 win.
"I was able to keep the ball down, get ahead and execute my off-speed stuff,"
Garcia said.
Garcia is 2-1 lifetime versus the Phils with a 1.20 ERA in six games (four
starts).
Philadelphia needed extra winnings to win Friday's tilt, as Hunter Pence
smacked a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning to carry the
Phillies to a 5-3 win.
Jonathan Papelbon notched his 14th save in as many opportunities with a 1-2-3
10th frame for Philadelphia, which has won three straight on the heels of a
four-game losing streak.
Rafael Furcal hit a solo shot in the loss for the Cardinals, who have lost six
of their last nine contests.
St. Louis won six of nine meetings with the Phillies during the regular season
last year.
