(Sports Network) - It didn't take long for the Diamondbacks to remind the Giants just who the kings are in the National League West.

After besting San Francisco's ace in the opener of this three-game series last night, Arizona seeks a seventh straight victory over its rivals this afternoon.

The Diamondbacks jumped on San Francisco's Tim Lincecum for three runs in the first inning last night en route to a 5-4 win. Chris Young hit a two-run homer, Paul Goldschmidt added a solo shot and Ryan Roberts ripped a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning after the Giants had battled back.

A 21-game winner last season, Ian Kennedy won his Opening Day assignment for Arizona, allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings. He was a key cog for the Diamondbacks last year as they went worst-to-first to win the NL West by eight games over the Giants.

"We knew San Francisco wasn't going to go away after we scored early," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "For us to get two runs after they tied it up was huge."

Lincecum lasted 5 1/3 innings, yielding a total of five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts. Melky Cabrera hit a two-run homer and Pablo Sandoval added an RBI double for the Giants.

"I got a little mad," Lincecum said. "Giving up three runs in that first inning is not the way to start a season, so I just tried to bear down and grind through."

One bright spot in the loss for the Giants was the return of catcher Buster Posey, who played for the first time since suffering a broken leg and torn ligaments in a collision at home plate on May 29.

The Diamondbacks won their final five games versus the Giants last year, earning a split of the 18-game season series.

Arizona will look to secure a season-opening series win over San Francisco today behind Daniel Hudson, who formed an excellent 1-2 punch a season ago with Kennedy.

Hudson was acquired from the White Sox during the 2010 season and won seven of his eight decisions with the Diamondbacks. He didn't slow down last year, going 16-12 with a 3.49 earned run average in 33 starts and 222 innings.

The 25-year-old righty is 4-2 with a 2.59 ERA in six career starts versus the Giants.

Countering for San Francisco will be Madison Bumgarner, a 2007 first-round draft pick who posted a 13-13 record and 3.21 ERA in 33 starts last year despite losing his first six decisions on the season. The left-hander finished strong, winning six of his last seven starts while allowing two runs or fewer in each win.

Bumgarner, 22, has never lost to the Diamondbacks, going 3-0 with a 2.41 ERA in six games, including five starts.
