Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Stephen Drew and Jacoby Ellsbury each knocked in
two runs as the Boston Red Sox used a two-run seventh to beat the Toronto Blue
Jays, 7-5, in the second contest of a four-game series.
Drew, however, left the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with tightness
in his right hamstring. He suffered the injury while sliding into second
following a double.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Jonny Gomes and Mike Napoli added an RBI apiece for
Boston, which has won four in a row.
Allen Webster got the start for the Red Sox and gave up four runs on six hits
over six-plus innings. Andrew Miller (1-2) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of
relief to pick up the win.
Edwin Encarnacion hit a solo homer and knocked in two runs for the Blue Jays,
who have lost four of five games since their season-high 11-game winning
streak. Maicer Izturis, Adam Lind and Jose Bautista each drove in a run.
"We played so good for so long. That's the way the game works sometimes," Blue
Jays manager John Gibbons said. "You're bound to cool off a little bit."
Toronto starter Josh Johnson allowed five runs on eight hits over 3 1/3
innings. Neil Wagner (1-2) gave up two runs on three hits while recording just

Shane Victorino and Dustin Pedroia hit consecutive singles off Wagner. Brett
Cecil came in from the bullpen and walked Napoli with one out to load the
bases. Gomes came on as a pinch-hitter and hit an RBI single to left. Darren
Oliver then took over on the mound and immediately walked Saltalamacchia to
force in another run.
"It was a good response to Encarnacion's homer (in the top of the seventh),"
Boston manager John Farrell said. "Just a well played game all the way
Koji Uehara tossed a scoreless ninth to record his fourth save of the season.
Boston jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. With one out, Napoli
walked and Daniel Nava singled. After Saltalamacchia struck out swinging, Drew
hit a two-run triple to center that deflected off Colby Rasmus' glove.
The Red Sox tacked on another run in the third. Ellsbury singled and moved to
second on a passed ball. Following two quick outs, David Ortiz was
intentionally walked. Napoli hit an RBI single before Ortiz was thrown out at
the plate on Nava's base hit.
Boston used a two-run fourth to make it a 5-0 game. Drew left the game
following his one-out double to center. Brandon Snyder came on as a pinch-
runner and advanced to third on Jose Iglesias' single. Ellsbury followed with
a two-run single to right-center field, chasing Johnson from the game.
The Blue Jays got back in the contest by scoring three runs in the fifth. With
runners on the corners and one out, Bautista and Encarnacion hit back-to-back
RBI singles. Lind's sacrifice fly cut the gap to 5-3.
Toronto scored once in the sixth and seventh frames to tie the game. Rajai
Davis singled, stole second, moved to third on J.P. Arencibia's groundout and
crossed the plate on Izturis' sacrifice fly.
Encarnacion's homer in the seventh made it 5-5.
Boston is 7-4 versus the Blue Jays this season ... The Red Sox (49-33) are 16
games over .500 for the first time since the conclusion of the 2011 season
(90-72) ... Ellsbury extended his hitting streak to nine games ... Boston
finished 6-for-16 with runners in scoring position, while Toronto went 2-
