Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland A's reinstated first baseman Daric Barton from the 15-day disabled list on Monday and designated first baseman Brandon Allen for assignment.

Barton was placed on the disabled list last Tuesday, retroactive to March 24, with a strained right shoulder.

He played just seven games in spring training, hitting .176, but batted .368 with a homer and five RBI in a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento that began last Thursday.

Allen, the team's Opening Day starter at first base, went 0-for-7 with five strikeouts in three games.
