Nationals send Harper to Triple-A

Viera, FL (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals optioned outfielder Bryce Harper, the first overall pick in the 2010 draft, to Triple-A Syracuse of the International League on Sunday.

Harper, one of the most hyped offensive prospects in recent years, batted .304 in eight spring training games for Washington this season.

He is reportedly expected to join the major league club sometime this season.

After drafting the then-17-year-old phenom, the Nationals signed Harper to a five-year major league contract worth $9.9 million.

The club also optioned catcher Jhonatan Solano and infielder Tyler Moore to Triple-A Syracuse, while sending infielder Mark Teahen to minor league camp.
