Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers announced Thursday that pitcher Eddie Bonine has decided to become a free agent rather than accept an outright assignment to the minor leagues.
Bonine had a 4-1 record for the 2010 season with a 4.63 earned run average in 47 appearances with Detroit. He recorded a career-high four wins in 68 innings pitched this past season.
Detroit also announced that infielder Brent Dlugach has been traded to the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash considerations by April 15, 2011.
Dlugach hit .258 with 52 runs scored, 22 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 41 RBI in 117 games with Triple-A Toledo.
The Tigers also outrighted the contracts of pitcher Jay Sborz, catcher Max St. Pierre and outfielder Jeff Frazier to Toledo of the International League.
