Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Florida Marlins pitcher Anibal Sanchez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder on Friday.
The young right-hander left Thursday's game against Atlanta with discomfort in his shoulder after throwing a pitch in the fifth inning. He had allowed four runs and seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings before exiting.
The 25-year-old had right shoulder surgery in June 2007 and returned in July of 2008. In his first big-league season in 2006, Sanchez turned in a solid 10-3 record with a 2.83 earned run average and pitched a no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In a related move, the club recalled top infield prospect Chris Coghlan from Triple-A New Orleans. He hit .344 with three home runs and 22 RBI in 25 games this season.
