Stubbs' HR caps comeback as Rockies shock Reds in Game 1
Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Stubbs ended an improbable comeback for the Colorado Rockies in the opener of a doubleheader on Sunday.
The Rockies entered the ninth inning trailing by four runs and pushed five across, three coming on Stubbs' walk-off home run to give Colorado a stunning 10-9 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Aroldis Chapman entered in a non-save situation with the Reds leading 9-5 in the ninth and walked all four batters he faced. After his payoff pitch to Charlie Culberson was well off the plate and forced in a run, Chapman was taken out in favor of J.J. Hoover.
Wilin Rosario made it 9-7 with a sacrifice fly to left, and Hoover (1-9) retired Charlie Blackmon on a sharp lineout to right before Stubbs crushed one to deep left-center and barely over the wall for his third career walk-off homer.
