Gallardo, Brewers down Diamondbacks

Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Yovani Gallardo continued his dominance over Arizona with seven solid innings Thursday as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Diamondbacks, 4-1, in the final contest of a four-game set.

Gallardo (5-4) improved to 7-0 in his 10th career start against the Diamondbacks after surrendering just one run on five hits with four strikeouts

Aramis Ramirez and Lyle Overbay both supplied two hits, a double and an RBI for the Brewers, who took three out of four games in Arizona.

David Peralta contributed two hits and a run scored and Didi Gregorius drove in the lone run for the Diamondbacks, who have now dropped seven of their last nine.

Rookie right-hander Chase Anderson (5-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up five hits and three runs -- two earned -- across six innings.

Neither pitcher allowed a hit until Chris Owings' bloop single landed into shallow right with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Owings stole second as Paul Goldschmidt struck out and advanced to third on catcher Martin Maldonado's throwing error, but Aaron Hill grounded out to end the frame.

Ramirez disrupted Anderson's no-hit bid in the fifth with a leadoff double to right. Two batters later, Overbay's chopper off the mound squirted up the middle for an RBI double.

After Maldonado flied out, Elian Herrera plated Overbay with a soft liner to second, giving the Brewers a 2-0 lead.

Arizona got one back in the home half. Peralta and Cody Ross both singled to put runners on the corners before Gregorius' force out scored Peralta.

In the sixth, Ramirez's RBI single into left scored Jean Segura, who singled and moved up to second on Anderson's throwing error.

Scooter Gennett stroked a one-out double off reliever Oliver Perez in the eighth. Matt Stites, making his MLB debut, took the mound and was greeted by Carlos Gomez's RBI single to right. Gomez advanced to second on the play, but was called out upon further review to end the frame.

Francisco Rodriguez tossed a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save of the season.
