Brewers pull away for series-opening win in Arizona
Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Aramis Ramirez's two-run double in the eighth inning helped the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a four-game series.
Ramirez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Scooter Gennett hit a solo home run, drove in two and scored twice for the Brewers, who have won four of their last six.
Wily Peralta (7-5) won his third straight start as he went seven innings and gave up three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts.
Roger Kieschnick was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped five of their last six games.
Brandon McCarthy allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings and also hit a two-run single in the no-decision.
With the score tied in the eighth, Will Harris (0-2) took the mound with two outs and walked Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy. Ramirez doubled home both and scored himself on a Khris Davis single for a 6-3 lead.
Will Smith worked a scoreless eighth inning, and the Brewers increased their lead in the ninth on an RBI single from Gennett and a two-run triple by Braun.
The Brewers took the initial lead in the game as Ramirez singled to lead off and Davis followed with a triple. A double play ground ball by Jean Segura allowed Davis to score for a 2-0 lead.
Arizona, though, answered in the home half on an RBI single from Kieschnick followed by a two-run hit from McCarthy for a 3-2 lead.
Gennett, though, homered to start the third to tie the game.
The Diamondbacks took two of three from the Brewers in Milwaukee in early May ... Milwaukee was a crisp 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
