Rangers place Moreland on DL, call up Snyder

Arlington, TX ( - The Texas Rangers have placed first baseman Mitch Moreland on the 15-day disabled list with Os Trigonum Syndrome in his left ankle.

To take his place on the active roster, Texas purchased the contract of first baseman/outfielder Brad Snyder from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room on the 40-man roster for Snyder, the team transferred pitcher Matt Harrison to the 60-day disabled list.

Moreland was set to have ankle reconstructive surgery that would have sidelined him for three months. Instead, Moreland will receive a second opinion before considering his surgery options. A lesser ankle surgery could be an option.

The 28-year-old Moreland is hitting .246 with two home runs and 23 RBI over 52 games this season.

He is the second first baseman to go down recently for the Rangers, as Prince Fielder was ruled out for the rest of the season after requiring neck surgery.

Snyder, 32, appeared in 61 games at Round Rock, batting .284 with 18 home runs, 11 doubles and 51 RBI. He saw his only major league action with the Chicago Cubs in 2010-11, batting .167 with no home runs and five RBI in 20 games.
