Phillies place Adams on DL

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies placed pitcher Mike Adams on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with inflammation in his right rotator cuff and recalled pitcher Ken Giles from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Adams, who started the season on the DL following right shoulder surgery in July, had not pitched in six days before throwing five pitches in one-third of an inning against the Reds on Friday.

The right-hander woke up with discomfort in his pitching shoulder the following day, prompting the Phillies to place him on the disabled list.

Over 19 appearances this season, Adams has gone 2-1 with a 2.12 earned run average and 20 strikeouts in 17 innings.

Giles was promoted to Lehigh Valley in early June and went 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA over 11 appearances.

Prior to his promotion, the 23-year-old right-hander posted a 1.20 ERA with 29 strikeouts in just 15 innings over 13 appearances with Double-A Reading.
